Persuaded

There is one novel among all the Jane Austen novels that I love that is by far my favorite and that is Persuasion. I never get tired of reading it and the movie version of it that I like the best, albeit there have been some minor changes in details from the book and its length is far too short to encompass more details, is the BBC production with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds (this man is the epitomy of tall, dark and handsome!). I could watch it over and over. In fact, I had watched this movie before I had ever read the novel. I know that some die-hard Austen fans would find even more fault with this movie version, but to me it was (as is often the case for me with movie versions of novels) an appetizer to tantalize my literary taste buds into wanting more and receiving more in the form of reading the novel. Rather than reading the novel first and being disappointed by the artistic liberties taken in the film version of any given novel, I do the opposite and watch the film first to whet my appetite for more.

There are so many scenes in this film version of Persuasion that I cherish but the following rate among the choicest for me:

I like the scene in this clip where Anne and Admiral Croft are walking together

In this clip, the conversation between Captain Harville and Anne is very poignant and, of course, there is the climax in which Captain Wentworth finally declares in a note he leaves for Anne that he is still in love with her after a separation of about seven years

45 and still naive!

My cluelessness astounds me. I went to the health center to have them extract an ingrown toenail. I thought I would be in, out and on my way to work in an hour, give or take. Instead, it was this elaborate procedure. My foot is wrapped up like I have sprained it and it is throbbing like hell.

The PA or doctor (don't know what she was, didn't ask) told me when the procedure was done that the numbness from the local she gave me would wear off in about 20 minutes. Boy, was she ever right on the money! I drove home with my gauzed and bandaged foot wrapped and taped in a plastic grocery bag because I couldn't possibly get my shoe over the bandaging. I took my time, made it home in roughly 10 min. I got inside, changed into my jammies and warmed my dinner (which I had made for work and forgot here anyway), grabbed the bottle of tylenol and a diet pepsi and made straight for the bed. Good thing too. No sooner had I finished eating my pasta with pesto and the throbbing started, lightly at first, but now more pronounced. I had taken 3 tylenol with supper so I think the throbbing right now is not at the full force that it could be.

My buddy Extra Strength Tylenol and I have a quiet night planned together: movies on Netflix, reading and maybe a bit of social networking. I will have to see how many Tylenol I can max out on in a 24 hr period. I might need it.

I honestly thought that the visit to the health center would be slightly more than my yanking out the ingrown bit myself, as I have done before without any anesthesia and was ready to go about my business once the pain subsided. I knew this would need anesthesia, but I didn't think I'd miss work, aside from the time it took me to have my appointment and go to work from there. Boy, even at 45 you can still be naive.

All that just for an ingrown toenail. Crazy or what? Don't look too closely. You can see part of my scar from falling against the edge of an upright barbell weight.
